We will always respect your privacy, dignity and your religious and cultural beliefs particularly when intimate examinations are advisable - these will only be carried out with your express agreement and you will be offered a chaperone to attend the examination if you so wish.
There are occasions when patients need to be assessed by a doctor which might involve intimate examinations. We are committed to putting patients at ease whenever possible and if you wish a chaperone to be present during your examination, please ask the Receptionist when booking your appointment or your doctor.
A chaperone is designed to protect both patients and staff from abuse or allegation of abuse and to assist patients to make an informed choice about their examinations and consultation. It may not be possible for a chaperone to be provided immediately and you might have to return for the examination to be carried out at a mutually convenient time.
You may also request a chaperone when making the appointment or on arrival at the surgery (please let the receptionist know) or at any time during the consultation.
You are very welcome to be accompanied by a trusted friend or relative at your consultation if you wish.
